A family house dating to 1776, Roederer created Cristal in 1876 as a private cuvée for Tsar Alexander II — the wine that invented the "prestige" category.
Unusually for a big house it owns most of its vineyards, a large share farmed biodynamically, giving it rare control from vine to bottle.
