George Garvin Brown began selling whiskey in sealed glass bottles in 1870 — a guarantee against tampering that effectively invented the bourbon brand — and Old Forester has been made by his family's company, Brown-Forman, ever since. It is the only bourbon continuously sold by the same family before, during (medicinal licence) and after Prohibition. Its Whiskey Row series recreates historic proofs and processes, and its banana-bread-and-spice character anchors Louisville's revival.
