Clynelish

Whisky people say one word about Clynelish: waxy. A quirk of its process — residues left deliberately undisturbed in the feints receivers — gives the spirit a candle-wax texture and mineral, citrus character found nowhere else, treasured by blenders (it is the fingerprint malt of Johnnie Walker Gold) and hunted by enthusiasts. It stands above the Sutherland coast beside Brora, its legendary predecessor — silent from 1983 until Diageo revived it in 2021.
